The defending Atlantic Junior Hockey Champions and Don Johnson Memorial Cup winners from last year are back in this year's championship game Sunday afternoon in Mt. Pearl. Their opponent is not quite known yet, it could possible be a re-match with the Kensington P.E.I. Vipers who they played in last year's Atlantic Championship Final. If not the Vipers, it will be the host Mt. Pearl Blades who the Bulldogs defeated Friday evening to clinch first place in the round-robin standings.
As for Saturday's semi-final win over the St. John's Jr. Capitals, it was complete annihilation as the Bulldogs routed the Capitals 9-0, following an 8-0 triumph over the same Capitals in round-robin play earlier in the week. Nick Marshall scored twice for the Bulldogs while also adding three assists while Cameron Bell also scored once and added a apair of assists. Other Bulldog goal scorers were Zachary Lorette, Sam Grant, Owen Flemming, Jack Hayne, Owen Juurlink and Brodie MacDonald. Logan McGarth chipped in with trio of assists.
The Bulldogs dominated from start to finish outshooting the Jr. Capitals 69-16 including 23-3 in the first period and 23-4 in the third period. The Bulldogs held period leads of 2-0 and 6-0. The Caps managed only 16 shots on the Antigonish net. The Bulldogs also scofred a pair of short-handed goals as the Caps were assessed 57 penalty minutes in the game compared to five minors for the Bulldogs.
